Patient Adherence to Treatment Recommendations

  • Despite physician’s best intentions (and in many cases the patient’s also), patient adherence remains a serious and costly issue
  • Up to 40% of patients do not adhere to their treatment regimens
  • Non-adherence to medications cause over 125,000 deaths annually in the United States
  • Non-adherence to medications are responsible for up to 25% of hospital & nursing home admissions
  • Unfortunately, not much improvement in rates of non-adherence in the past 30 years
