Key Elements of Airborne Isolation

  • Place patient in private room with negative airflow
  • Place a mask on patient while outside negative-airflow room
  • Wear appropriate respiratory protection when entering the room
    • Surgical mask for measles or varicella (must be immune)
    • N-95 mask for tuberculosis cases or suspects
