Droplet vs. Airborne Transmission

  • In some infections, respiratory droplets evaporate to become droplet nuclei < 5 microns; may be carried with air currents and infect susceptibles through inhalation
  • Such infections include tuberculosis, varicella and measles
  • Placement of patient in negative airflow room ASAP is principle means of control
