Key Elements of Contact Isolation

  • Place patient in private room
  • Glove on entering the room
  • Wear disposable gown for any extensive contact with the patient
  • Perform hand hygiene before patient contact and after removing gloves
  • Examples of infections spread through contact with intact skin or environment: MRSA, agents of infectious diarrhea, scabies, respiratory syncytial virus
