Definition
A Systematic Review (SR) is an analysis
conducted by a group of investigators who perform an extensive search
for all individual randomized controlled trials conducted in a given
area. Investigators then try to combine the data from all the multiple trials
into one larger analysis. Ideally, this will create more statistical
power and provide stronger conclusions.
-
Advantages: Has the potential to provide highly valid
and useful evidence.
-
Disadvantages: If the studies that are combined for
analysis arent similar (this is called the amount of homogeneity),
the
conclusions from the analysis may not be valid or useful.
