Protocol for TB Suspects or Patients with Active TB Requiring Surgery

  • Note: All operating rooms are positive airflow and place those outside the OR as well as those inside at risk of exposure to TB droplet nuclei generated during surgery
  • Consider if surgery is necessary or can be delayed pending TB treatment
  • Alert OR staff and schedule case at end of day, limit traffic inside and outside OR
  • Transport patient with surgical mask on
  • All staff wear N-95 masks
  • Recover patient with pulmonary TB in negative airflow room e.g. in ICU
