Communication, Communication, and Still More Communication

Claims and lawsuits are inevitable (as are poor outcomes), but they can be greatly reduced by:

  • Being open with your patient and his/her family
  • Disclosing unanticipated outcomes ASAP
  • Speaking a language that the patient/family understands
