Duties of the Transferring Hospital

Physician

  • Arranges transfer through “qualified personnel and equipment”
  • Remains responsible until the care is assumed by the receiving hospital
  • Arranges for an accepting hospital
  • Provides treatment
  • Sends appropriate data
  • Obtains written informed consent
  • Accepts the patient if they have the capability
    • In specialty trained personnel
    • In specialty units
      • NICU, Burn unit, Trauma unit, Neurosurgical ICU
  • Has the capacity to treat the pt
    • Defined as services, not currently available beds
      • Receiving hospital has a cardiac cath lab, and the ability to recover pt in the PACU
