Preventative Health Indicators & Healthy People 2010

  • Healthy People 2010 is a strategy developed by the U.S. Department of Health whose aim is to profoundly improve the quality of health of the American population with an overarching goal of creating healthy people in healthy communities
  • With input from multiple sources including the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Science, 10 Leading Health Indicators have been identified as the cornerstone of Healthy People 2010
  • These 10 Health Indicators focus on individual behaviors, physical and social environmental factors and health system issues which significantly affect the health of individuals and communities
