JCAHO – National Patient Safety Goals

Eliminate wrong-site, wrong-patient, wrong-procedure surgery:
  • Site & side verification, with the patient as a participant, prior to invasive procedures
  • "Time out" prior to the procedure wherein patient, equipment, diagnostic results, films, etc. are all verified
  • UNMH policy requires compliance for all procedures where sedation is administered

Improve the safety of using infusion pumps -- Ensure freeflow protection on all general-use and PCA (patient controlled analgesia) intravenous infusion pumps

Improve the effectiveness of clinical alarm systems
